Fallout: New Vegas (PS3)
It’s been a while. I’ve been packing, scheduling, working, moving, etc. so had to ignore my wonderful little corner of the internet for bit. Back now, though. Just in time for the release of Fallout: New Vegas, which came out on my birthday so how’s that for an awesome little present for myself? Aw yeah!
Anyway, I’ve been playing this game for about a week now and I have to say: it’s freaking awesome. Seriously. It’s “more of the same” of what we saw in Fallout 3, with some new features and some tweaks here and there.. but that’s totally cool. You know why? Fallout 3 ruled, that’s why. I’m more than happy to sink another 60+ hours (cumulative) into the same type of game.
My favourite part of these games has always been the landscape, and it only gets better in New Vegas. Lots of sprawling hills and vegetation in the Mojave “wasteland” which is quite a change from the DC Capital wasteland in Fallout 3. The Mojave also has clear skies, day and night, for the most part, which is also quite nice. It’s amazing how such a simple thing as this can go overlooked, but I really love to appreciate the amount of work and art that goes into crafting something like this. How the shadows cast properly, and how the sun and moon actually follow the in-game time.. so when it’s 12 noon, the sun is right over head. Good stuff.
Outside of that, I’m really just exploring right now and taking on side quests instead of working toward the main end-game. Trying to find the various followers you can get to tag along for the adventure. So far I’ve found a floating eye robot named ED-E and a sniper named Boone. Boone rocks, by the way. Nothing more satisfying than having a seasoned sniper watch your back while you’re treading into dangerous territory. BOOM! Headshot right outta nowhere!
More impressions later.
